Dial Testing
ASI is the pioneer in developing instantaneous dial testing and tune-out measurements having created and
set the gold standard since the 1960's for the major media and advertising companies.
While ASI has its primary dial testing facility in Los Angeles, our clients also use our services and
technology to perform dial testing in other cities domestically, as well as internationally.
Using our hand-held dial testing devices, viewers provide second-by-second responses to the program. These
units measure involvement in the program (dial) and “tune-out” (red button). ASI has set the gold standard in
dial testing over the last 5 decades.

After viewing the program, respondents complete a self-administered questionnaire to further
evaluate program strengths and weaknesses.
Focus groups are conducted after dial testing among key segments of the viewers to gain deeper
insights into viewer reactions.

At the completion of the dial testing session, clients leave with the
following:

A DVD reflecting the viewers’ dial responses overlaid on the visual test stimuli.

A DVD of the focus group discussions.

A data deck breaking out the questionnaire results by the total audience and desired subgroups.

Annotated dial and tune-out charts by desired subgroups.
